#10 WHY "TERMINATOR 4" WON'T NEED ARNOLD
"Final Fantasy" took the big leap into artificial
actor territory in 2001 one with a full-length science fiction film feature
populated entirely with computer generated actors. That the film was "not"
marketed expressly to children is what distinguishes this film as the first
real foray into serious on screen drama performed by digital beings. While
the film didn't do as well as expected ("Shrek" and "Monsters
Inc." faired far better), the techniques displayed and seriousness
of production quality confirmed that real actors in Hollywood have legitimate
competition to worry about.
The rendering and animation will just get better, and in
a few years we may see more unknown actors getting work as "voice"
actors than getting first time shots. Of course, artificial speech technology
has already successfully duplicated Humphrey Bogart's voice, so even this
may not be an option. Ouch...! |
