#3 FIRST PEEK AT YOUR FUTURE ROBOT MASTER'S BRAIN ENGINE
The field of nanotechnology (essentially, atomic scale
machines) remains a mystery to some, and is virtually off the radar for
most people. Despite this, nanotechnology looks to be one of the most important
areas of science in our time and will likely have a huge impact on the 21st
century. While the science tome "Engines Of Creation" pragmatically
lays out the foundation of real-life nanotech, it's the science fiction
work "Diamond Age" by Neil Stephenson that truly gives one a sense
of nanotech's potential.
In 2001 a research team led by Paul Weiss of Pennsylvania
State University and James Tour of Rice University effectively proved that
functionalized carbon nanotubes might one day be used for making electronic
circuits that are far tinier than our current silicon-based circuitry.
