#4 THE BEST ARGUMENT FOR "ANYONE CAN BE PRESIDENT"
While he came into the White House under a cloud of controversy,
President George W. Bush has still managed to somehow assert his leadership
over the American citizenry with a series of legislative power moves. Extending
his reach into the science arena, Bush handed down a decision to allow,
with certain restrictions, the funding of embryonic stem cell research.
The decision could ultimately help scientists find cures to several major
diseases. This was a relatively bold move for Bush given the large protest
from many conservatives against stem cell research.
Bush's mettle was tested again on September 11th, when
Islamic terrorists ran two jumbo jets into New York's Twin Towers, thus
destroying the structures and killing over 3000 citizens. The same day two
other plans were crashed by terrorists, one into the Pentagon, and one in
an unpopulated area of Pennsylvania. While Bush's response (a move to declare
war on terrorists) has some merit, others are still waiting for answers
as to what happened to the four other planes that were reported by several
major news agencies to have been hijacked that same morning. |
