#6 THE END OF FREE SPEECH AS WE KNOW IT (HA , HA)
The biggest management change in America occurred when
Richard Parsons took the CEO reins over at AOL TimeWarner from departing
chief Gerald Levin. Since the switch, more focus has been cast upon the
new head of the world's most powerful media conglomerate next to Viacom.
Parsons is originally from New York, a long time Republican, and known for
his ability to bring people together and moderate conflicts successfully.
And while the "new economy" has largely been viewed as a failure
by most, it will take new paradigm implementation to find a way to synergize
the disparate units of AOL and TimeWarner.
Parsons generally comes off as a conservative leader, more
interested in holding the line than shaking things up and introducing innovation.
Then there's the fact that he's been really chummy with Junior Bush, a possible
foreshadowing of an AOL TimeWarner future media/online access monopoly tacitly
sanctioned by the White House. But, with a the recession hopefully on the
wane, we wish Parsons all the luck in the world as AOL TimeWarner is the
leader in its field, and good leaders are needed badly right now.
